My Story
Sonya Curry is an entrepreneur, educator, author and speaker. Born with an innate affinity for education, Sonya is passionate about every person’s ability to learn and contribute to others on their journey of self discovery, and is committed to building a forward-thinking community.
Sonya earned a Bachelors of Science in Family and Child Development from Virginia Tech and the Montessori education certification for infants, toddlers, and primary school. She’s completed hours of training in Montessori administration and earned the North Carolina Early Childhood and Administration Credentials.
Sonya’s passion for family and faith has influenced every part of her life. She’s a mother to Stephen and Seth Curry and Sydel Curry-Lee and grandmother to six grandchildren. She’s the Founder of Christian Montessori School of Lake Norman and previously served as the Assistant Athletic Director of the Charlotte Christian School’s women’s sports programs. Sonya is deeply involved in her communities, serving on a variety of board of directors like Charlotte Housing Authority and advocating for domestic violence, serving at women’s shelters and fundraising.
Sonya tells her stories of motherhood, education and Christianity in her first book, “Fierce Love: A Memoir of Family, Faith, and Purpose,” which was published in 2022. She’s also a podcast host on “Raising Fame” which tells the childhood backstories of iconic athletes.
While most of her life was spent in her hometown in Southwest Virginia and raising her family in Charlotte, Sonya is always traveling and can be found wherever her family is, mostly in the Bay Area and Florida.
